World Blood Donor Day, is celebrated on the 14th of June every year. This day serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. A slogan/theme is selected every year, focusing on the value of donating blood to the patient, not only in saving a life but also in helping people live longer and more productive lives.

This year’s slogan “Donating Blood is an act of solidarity​​” highlights the contribution blood donors make to keep the world pulsating by saving lives. Join the effort and saves lives​!

The commemoration of World Blood Donor Day 2022 in Malta took place by lighting a number of structures, buildings and monuments with red lights. The three Presidential Palaces​ were lit for the occasion. The scope of lighting these buildings in red was:

The Auxillary Bishop of Malta Monsignor Joseph Curmi visited the blood collection center for the occasion of WBDD 2022.

After a two-year absence, WBDD was celebrated at the Verdala Palace Buskett, where His Excellency the President of Malta Dr. George Vella awarded 25 blood donors.
