The role of the Responsible Person within the Blood and Tissue Establishment is to ensure that every unit of blood or blood component has been collected, tested, processed, stored and distributed in accordance with the requirements of set Regulations and Standards; as well as ensuring that human tissues and cells intended for human application in the establishment has been procured, tested, processed, stored and distributed in accordance with the relevant EU Directives and with the laws in force in the Member State. The role as Medical Director entails the responsibility and authority for all medical and technical policies, processes, and procedures - including those that pertain to laboratory personnel and test performance - and for the consultative and support services that relate to the care and safety of donors and / or transfusion / tissue recipients.
