Exhibition

The Blood Donation Process

Join us at the exhibition, get to know all about blood donation and ask any queries you might have.

Workshop 1: From Donation to Patient

Have you ever wondered what happens to the donated blood? Well, it goes to a patient who needs it! Sounds simple, but there is a long process before it reaches the patient. Join us to get to know all about it.

Workshop 2: The blood circulatory system

What is this system? Would you like to know what blood is really made up of? It has different components and all of them have a different function. What about the red colour of the blood? What produces this colour?

Workshop 3: Are we compatible? Are we safe?

What are the different blood groups? Who is the universal donor and receiver? Did you know that all blood is tested for transmitted disease?

(from 6.00pm till 10.00pm)

As part of its series of late events for adults only, Esplora Interactive Science Centre, Kalkara will be putting up Bloody Late on the 15th June 2018 from 6.00pm till 10.00pm.

The event will feature workshops from donation to patient, the blood circulatory system and blood compatibility, together with an exhibition highlighting the work carried out by the National Blood Transfusion Service. Members from Organ Donation, as well as people who benefitted from organ donation will also be present to raise awareness and share their experiences about the gift of organ donation. Visitors can also register to become organ donors.

It is likely that most of us never think about blood donation because we have never encountered a need, however, people receiving blood never did either! During this event, experts and patients will be holding different sessions explaining the composition of blood, blood groups and the blood donation together with the processes involved until it reaches the patient.

It will also feature three workshops:
