‘Be there for someone else. Give Blood. Share Life.’ was the theme chosen for this Years’ WBDD hosted in Greece. Every year, countries around the world celebrate world blood donors day on the 14th of June.
The World Health Organization commemorate this day to recognize the generosity of these people who during the years offer some of their time to donate the most precious gift one can give. Their own blood.
In Malta, each year, about 7 male donors donates for their 100th blood donation whilst around 5 females make their 50th blood donation. This has been recognized by Her Excellency The President of Malta Marie Louise Coleiro Preca were she presented a recognition award to 13 Blood Donors who have been donating blood and saving lives for quite a number of years. This year, these were – Abela Consiglio, Borġ Raymond, Cassar Albert, Fenech Salvu, Gauci Robert, Micallef Engerer John, Micallef Joseph, Bondin Marvi, Buttiġieġ Maria Annunziata, Filletti Carmen, Mifsud Antoinette, Sapiano Mary Josephine, Sciberras Maria Concetta.
During the ceremony, Janet Micallef and Corazon who received a good amount of blood shared their experience that if it weren’t for the blood donors’ generosity they wouldn’t have been amongst us today. Read more
